Many people may not think much about tablecloths until they need them. Events such as weddings, parties and family dinners are the perfect opportunity to dress up the table of the home. Tablecloths add spice and variety not just to the table, but to the atmosphere and the occasion it’s being used for. Although tablecloths are mainly used to protect tables from wear and tear, they are also used to provide style and variety to not only the table but the room as well.
The tablecloths of today probably don’t speak to your social status as much as they did in the past, but when you select the right colors, the right sizes and shapes and the right materials that suit your event or occasion, then your table will most notably be a stand out on its own.
Familiesamilies start to take their holiday décor out of storage. Tablecloths in particular are something that we tend to spend a little extra money on, and want to keep looking perfect throughout the holiday season. It is important to properly preserve your tablecloth to keep it looking as though it is brand new each year.
Tablecloth design, like any other fashion art form, reflected existing tastes and styles of the period. We can use the records of these fashions and moods to generally determine dates. Although in some cases the tablecloths can be assigned to a general decade, as I have done in my book, or even to a specific group of years, the lack of manufacturing records or other cataloguing of these delightful keepsakes makes assigning any one date extremely difficult. For my book, I researched the history of the dyes, copyright & trademark records and poured over vintage catalogs to come up the a “quick reference summary” to help you date your tablecloths.
For formal events like weddings, tablecloths are available in numerous specialty fabrics like silk or organza. Silk and organza are more expensive tablecloth options, but they offer a more luxurious appearance and a number of formal style options including embroidery. Specialty fabrics require more delicate washing and care but most specialty tablecloths are only used on occasion. Consider renting specialty linens to avoid the cost of purchasing them in large quantities.
Do you face problems of un-pressed, bad smelling tablecloths while going to use them for a sudden dinner party? If yes then the problem is the way you store the tablecloth, and not in your tablecloth.
